Frequently asked questions

What this site is, where the numbers come from, and what to do when one of them is wrong.

What is this?

A price comparison for gyms in Austin. We list 98 gyms across6 parts of the city and show what each one actually costs per month once enrollment and annual fees are counted, alongside contract terms and day-pass rates where they are published.

What does “all-in” mean?

The advertised monthly rate is rarely the whole cost. A gym might charge $29.99 a month and then add a $99 initiation fee and a $69 annual fee. Over a first year that is $44 a month, not $29.99.

So every headline price on this site is the all-in monthly cost: the monthly rate for a year, plus any enrollment fee, plus any annual fee, divided by twelve. The advertised rate is still shown, inside the breakdown, because you should be able to see both.

This changes the answer, not just the presentation. At LA Fitness Anderson Lane the $29.99 plan costs more all-in than the $31.99 plan, because of the initiation fee. Sorting by sticker price would put the wrong one first.

Where do the prices come from?

From each gym’s own website. 45 of the 98 gyms publish their rates publicly, and we read them from the gym’s pricing page. Every gym page shows the date its price was last checked and the domain it came from.

The other 53 do not publish rates at all — mostly consult-gated chains and boutique studios that quote you in person. Those are collected by hand, by asking. Until we have a number we can stand behind, the gym shows“call for pricing” rather than an estimate.

Why do some gyms have no price?

Because we do not have one we can source. 59 of 98 gyms currently show a confirmed price. We would rather show a gap than a guess: a plausible-looking wrong number is worse than an obvious blank, because you cannot tell it is wrong until you are standing at the desk.

The same rule applies to details. Where a gym does not publish its contract terms, no contract badge appears at all — we do not read silence as “no contract”.

How often are prices updated?

It depends on how often the gym changes them. Chains that run frequent promotions are re-checked weekly; stable independent gyms monthly. In January and June — the two months gyms actually change their offers — everything moves up a tier.

There is no site-wide “updated daily” claim here, because it would not be true for every gym. Each gym carries its own date instead. If a gym has not been re-checked in more than two weeks, its page says so plainly rather than presenting an old figure as current.

What about introductory offers?

Promotional rates are shown as promotions, and the standing rate drives the comparison. A $1 startup fee that expires in three weeks should not make a gym look permanently cheap.

Where a gym publishes only a promotional price and never its standing rate, we say the price is not published rather than treating the promo as the real one.

Why does one gym show a different price to the one on its own site?

Usually because of the billing cycle. 3 gyms billevery four weeks rather than monthly, which is thirteen payments a year, not twelve. A membership advertised at $215 “a month” on that cycle costs $233 a month in reality.

We show the gym’s own figure and its billing cycle in the breakdown, and use the true monthly equivalent for comparison. Nothing is silently converted.

Do you list day passes?

Yes, where the gym publishes one — 39 do so far. The Day passes tab switches the whole list to single-visit pricing.

A price is wrong. How do I report it?

Please tell us: reports@austingymprices.com. Every gym page and every expanded card has a “Report a wrong price” link that fills in the gym name for you.

Corrections are checked against the gym’s own site and fixed. If you work at a gym listed here, see for gym owners.

Are you affiliated with any of these gyms?

No. This site isn’t owned by or partnered with any gym. No gym has paid for placement or ranking — results are ordered by price and nothing else. If that ever changes in any way — a sponsored label, a referral link — it will be clearly marked as such, and it will never affect the prices shown or how gyms rank.

What do you do with my data?

Almost nothing. No accounts, no tracking cookies, no personal information collected or sold — to gyms or anyone else. We count anonymous, aggregate usage (like which gyms get clicked) to understand what’s useful.

Should I trust these numbers?

Check them before you sign. We read what gyms publish and we publish our sources and dates so you can verify any figure yourself — but pricing changes, promotions come and go, and staff quote things a website does not. Treat this as the shortlist, not the contract.
